Kangaroo Island, or KI as the locals call it, is beautiful and diverse. When you travel along its 155km length, you'll find soaring cliffs, dense forests and wetlands; as well as towering sand dunes and pristine white beaches.

KI is Australia's premier wildlife destination

Due to its isolation from the mainland, the island has suffered less from the impact of European settlement. As a result, animal populations have thrived. The protection of the wildlife on KI is vital for the regional economy. Because more than a third of the island is a protected area, it is a haven for many animals, birds and plant life.

KI contains the highest proportion of remnant vegetation of all South Australian agricultural regions. Around 40% of the island is covered by native vegetation, maintaining significant areas of relatively intact ecosystems.
